Short bio

Pablo Serrano received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) in 2002 and 2006, respectively. He joined the UC3M Telematics Engineering Department in 2002, where he is currently a Full Professor. Throughout his tenure, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Director of the Department, Director of the Master’s in Connected Industry 4.0, and his current role as Deputy Director for Infrastructure, Digitalization, and Sustainability at the Polytechnic School.

With over 100 peer-reviewed publications in flagship venues such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE INFOCOM, and IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, Professor Serrano is a recognized expert in wireless network analysis and protocol design. He has served on the TPC for conferences like IEEE INFOCOM and Globecom, and held editorial roles for IEEE Communications Letters and Elsevier Computer Networks. Currently, he is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, Elsevier Computer Communications, and Oxford’s The Computer Journal.

His research leadership includes serving as Principal Investigator for 8 projects and 8 research contracts, with additional participation in over 40 national and international initiatives. His work has influenced industry standards, including contributions to the IETF, IEEE 802.11, and ETSI MEC, and he holds a patent for energy-saving 802.11 interfaces.

A Senior Member of the IEEE, Professor Serrano has held prestigious visiting positions at UMass Amherst, the University of Edinburgh, and Trinity College Dublin, supported by competitive grants such as the Salvador de Madariaga. His research, and that of his students, has been recognized with several Best Paper and Best Ph.D. Thesis awards.
